King Korn

The past few months have been crazy with me being sick and Nick pretty much being on his own for eating. He was able to eat all his faves that I only allowed every few months like Chicken nuggets and Hamburger helper. Since I have been feeling much better and it is a new year, there is no better time to start changing our lifestyles. Nick and I have been fortunate enough to have our eyes opened recently as to where our food comes from. Believe it or not most of our food contains some sort of severely cheap processed corn. EEK. I mean so cheap and bad for you the farmers won't even eat it! We have watched several political documentaries on food including The Beautiful Truth, King Korn and Food Inc. All of which have completely opened our eyes. We have made a vow to try to eat as Organic as we can. Yes, we are aware that this is much more expensive but we are willing to allot more than 16% of our (or shall I say Nick's) annual income on food. This would be much easier if Nick was still out of a job and we were on assistance still, but that ended back in June., 16% is the goal that the government wants the American's to spend on food, therefore it is cheaply made and very unhealthy to keep cost low and American's spending money to keep the economy going. In the past a normal meal would have consisted of spaghetti or chili or chicken or some sort of casserole and some veggie side dishes, We can cook all the same things just with better ingredients. I am also hoping to keep serving sizes down as well as boost the veggie serving size up! So in 2010 we are going to spend a little more money on keeping our bodies and minds healthy and in the government's eyes worsen our economy.

We highly recommend everyone take a look at these documentaries.
