Twister...No Blizzard.

Well needless to say this deserves its own blog.

Last Tuesday 2/5 was a bit of a whirlwind for not only me but quite a few people in the south. My prayers are with everyone effected. There were many tornadoes in our area. I haven't had to go through that, EVER. I freaked. I was up until the wee hours with my family waiting to take shelter if needed. I was the only one who did. Some say I may be a chicken, I say it was scary!!!! So there were tracking this storm second by second. They are announcing tornado warning all over the area. The storm's projected path is to hit the Valley Station area at 12:16 am. I freak. I go in the bedroom get nick up & tell him to go sleep in the basement on the floor away from the window. Then I really freak when the tornado warning goes out & the sirens go off. I run down stairs and Nick is sleeping on the couch right next to the window!!! I scream to get up as I run in the laundry room where there are no windows & ball up under the stairwell. Man I was trippin. So I start crying & I Nick is like it's ok come sit next to me. IS HE NUTS!!! My dad says to come upstairs so of course I am going to listen....he knows about this stuff. I come up there & he is outside on the stoop...he is even crazier than Nick! Back downstairs I go. Back and forth for a few minutes trying to get everyone in the basement like a mother bear protecting her cubs. Why is nobody coming down??? My dad says that everything is fine & to come back up. I watch the Doppler and the storm had passed. Needless to say the news said if there was a tornado that would touch down in our area it would be near St. Andrews Church Rd. that is like 1 mile away!! Good thing I didn't hear that until after the storm passed. Luckily the Louisville area didn't get any touchdowns, just a lot of trees & power lines down from the 80 mile an hour wind. The next day was a blast at work. True story of Shay's first Tornado Warning.....Sad to some scary to others.

On to today Monday 02/11...Blizzard of the year. I just know it! It is still snowing. They are calling from 6-12 inches. This makes the snow in Roanoke look like flurries; well it is most of the time. So I was at work at 4:35 and I look out the window & it has just started to flurry. I have been waiting for it all day. I was like oh how fun it will be to sit at my desk in my cute lil office and watch the snow. Well 4:45 rolls around & my boss says to go ahead & leave. I am like it's not bad but ok.... So I walk outside & it has already started to cover the ground. What?!? In 10 minutes!!! So I am on my way home. I get into a bit of traffic here & there ar first then watch everyone else in front of me slide around & then I slide into the curb & scratch my car up-oh well could a been worse. Well needless to say the snow kept falling, the traffic kept building & my normal 25 minute car ride home turned into 2 & 1/2 hours! YIKES! I kept trying to take back roads around the traffic but nothing seemed to work! Cars, trucks, buses stranded everywhere. I am so thankful I was able to make it home safely. They are calling for ice overnight & I know that tomorrow morning is going to be another journey. That is if we have to go in. Wish us luck!
